It is said that cricket was first played on the common in Redbourn in 1666. Redbourn Cricket Club was officially founded some time prior to 1823, making the Club one of the oldest clubs in Hertfordshire. In 2023 we are celebrating our bicentenary.
We have four senior teams playing in the Saracens Herts Premier Cricket League on Saturdays, with 3 of them winning their respective divisions in 2021 and the 3XI and 1XI winning promotion in 2022.
Our 1XI have now either won their league or been promoted in each of the last 5 seasons, winning division 3A in 2018, 2B in 2019, 2A in a Covid-shortened 2020 season (where there was no promotion or relegation) and were champions of 2A again in 2021. In 2022 they were runners up to St Albans in Division 1 and they play in the Championship in 2023.
The 2XI play in 4B having won 5B in 2021. The 3XI were promoted to 8A in after finishing as runners up in division 8B in 2022. The 4XI were champions of Regional Div B West in 2021 and now play in 10W.
On Sundays we have a social side who play a number of friendly fixtures against local clubs.
In 2020 our 1XI played at Lord's in the final of the Cricketer magazine's National Village Knockout Cup. Sadly, they lost on the final ball of the match, but are determined to go one better.
As a club, we continue to promote women's and girl's cricket, our senior women's side play in the Home Counties Women's Cricket League. We also have a women's softball squad for those who are keen to play cricket in a more social environment (no prior cricketing experience or equipment required). We are always keen to hear from anyone interested in joining, please contact Stuart Barker our club secretary here.
We have approximately 300 juniors from U6s - U15s age groups playing regularly, including a girls section that offers the opportunity for girls to play cricket in an "all girls" environment. All of our league squads (U8s -U15s, girls & boys) are coached by professional coaches in addition to the RCC volunteer coaches, providing enhanced coaching over both winter and summer training. We also run the ECB national All Stars and Dynamos (Girls only) programs. Please contact Dave Irwin our Director of Junior Cricket if you would like more information about your child joining our Juniors' or Girls' section at juniors@redbourncricketclub.uk
We are always keen to welcome new senior players as well, irrespective of ability. For more membership information please contact us through this website or email Jon Fleming our Chairman of Selectors here.
