John was a long standing and much-loved member of the club, having joined in 1953 he played until the late 1970s and served on the committee, he was a junior organiser for nine years, nurturing many players that continued to play for the club for many years. John then took up umpiring, a task that he carried out dutifully for the club for 16 years, before turning his hand to his later life passion of bowls.

John was also groundsman for the club for many years and was very proud to serve as President of the club from 2018 –2021 and kindly donated the flagpole and flag to the club. John continued to support the club to the end, and enjoyed watching cricket. He was often seen at both the common and Rec and was particularly proud of his granddaughter Olivia, who became one of the first females to play men’s league cricket for the club. John will be sorely missed.

John’s funeral will take place at 11.30am on Friday 28th March at Hemel Hempstead Crematorium, Bedmond Road, Hemel Hempstead HP3 8LL. All are welcome to attend but to help with numbers the family would ask that you express your wish to attend by email to geoff.bart@ntlworld.com
